Journey Overview

Discover a more authentic and refined side of Bali on a carefully curated 4-day cultural journey through Ubud, ancient temples, terraced rice fields, traditional villages, and the peaceful Sidemen Valley. This journey combines heritage, spirituality, local craftsmanship, rural landscapes, and elegant boutique resort stays.

The journey begins in Ubud, the artistic heart of the island, with time to explore its palaces, traditional crafts, and Balinese performing arts. From here, travel into the countryside to visit the ancient archaeological complex of Gunung Kawi, the sacred springs of Tirta Empul, and the iconic rice terraces of Tegallalang, while learning about the traditional subak irrigation system and its deep connection to Balinese community life.

Continue into eastern Bali through the traditional village of Penglipuran and the magnificent Besakih Temple, set on the slopes of Mount Agung.

The journey then leads to the peaceful Sidemen Valley, where rice fields, traditional villages, weaving traditions, and mountain scenery create a slower and more intimate atmosphere. A guided countryside walk and a visit to the Bali Aga village of Tenganan Pegringsingan, renowned for its rare double-ikat Geringsing textiles, complete this immersion into Bali’s living traditions.

Itinerary

Arrival in Bali | Ubud & Balinese Arts

Day 1

Arrival at Ngurah Rai International Airport, where you will be welcomed by your private guide and driver.

Travel north toward Ubud, Bali’s cultural heart. Depending on the arrival time, stop along the way at a traditional artisan village to discover one of Bali’s long-established crafts, such as wood carving or silverwork.

Continue to Ubud and check in at Kayumanis Ubud Private Villa & Spa.

Set amid tropical forest overlooking the Ayung River, Kayumanis offers private villas and a peaceful atmosphere away from central Ubud, while remaining closely connected to a traditional Balinese village and its daily cultural life.

Take some time to relax before exploring central Ubud in the late afternoon, including a leisurely walk around Ubud Palace and its surroundings.

Dinner at a carefully selected Balinese restaurant.

When available, the evening may include a traditional Balinese dance performance, introducing guests to Balinese mythology, music and ceremonial arts.

Day 2

After breakfast, travel into the countryside north of Ubud for a day dedicated to Balinese history, spirituality and rural landscapes.

Begin at Candi Gunung Kawi, an impressive archaeological complex set within the lush Pakerisan River Valley.

Continue to Tirta Empul Temple, one of Bali’s important sacred spring temples, where local Hindu devotees may be seen performing the traditional purification ritual known as melukat.

Enjoy lunch in the countryside overlooking rice fields.

In the afternoon, continue through the landscapes around Tegallalang, with time for a gentle walk among rice terraces and small farming communities.

The experience goes beyond a photographic stop, introducing guests to the relationship between rice cultivation, the traditional subak irrigation system, village organisation and Balinese philosophy.

Return to Ubud in the afternoon.

Enjoy some time at leisure at the resort, perhaps relaxing by the private pool or enjoying a spa treatment.

Dinner at the resort or a selected restaurant in Ubud.

Day 3

After breakfast, leave Ubud and travel deeper into the cultural landscapes of eastern Bali.

Visit Penglipuran, one of Bali’s best-preserved traditional villages. Walk through its characteristic village lanes and family compounds while learning about traditional Balinese community organisation and architecture.

Continue toward the slopes of Mount Agung and visit Besakih Temple, Bali’s largest and most important Hindu temple complex.

After the visit, enjoy lunch overlooking the countryside of eastern Bali.

Continue to Sidemen Valley, one of Bali’s most attractive rural areas, surrounded by rice terraces, plantations, traditional villages and mountain scenery.

Check in at Wapa di Ume Sidemen.

This five-star boutique resort sits among rice fields and hills, with panoramic views toward Mount Agung and the surrounding valley. Its setting works particularly well for this itinerary because the hotel itself becomes part of the rural Bali experience rather than simply a place to sleep.

The remainder of the afternoon is kept deliberately relaxed.

Guests may enjoy the swimming pool, spa, wander through the surrounding landscape or simply sit on the terrace overlooking the valley.

Return to the resort for breakfast and some time to freshen up before departure.

Continue toward Tenganan Pegringsingan, one of Bali’s best-known Bali Aga villages.

Explore the village and learn about its distinctive social organisation, architecture and the celebrated Geringsing double-ikat textile tradition.
