Arrive at Mozes Kilangin Airport in Timika around midday, where your guide and driver will warmly welcome you to Papua.

From the airport, proceed directly to a local restaurant for lunch before beginning your introduction to the region with a visit to Kuala Kencana, a carefully planned district originally developed to support employees of Freeport Indonesia.

Kuala Kencana offers an interesting contrast between modern urban planning and the surrounding Papuan landscape, providing a glimpse into another side of contemporary life in this remote part of Indonesia.

Afterward, return to Timika and visit the traditional market, where daily life unfolds in a lively and colorful atmosphere. Observe vendors selling vegetables, sweet potatoes, spices, fresh fish, and other local produce. The market also reflects Timika’s cultural diversity, with Papuan, Bugis, Buton, and other communities living and trading alongside one another.

You may also see Papuan women tending their stalls while weaving noken, the traditional handmade bags that remain an important part of Papuan identity and everyday life.

In the late afternoon, check in at your hotel. Dinner will be served at a selected local restaurant before returning to the hotel for a well-deserved rest.

After breakfast, depart the hotel and travel toward the harbor in Kampung Komoro before continuing to a nearby coastal village.

Here, discover a very different side of Papuan life. Simple wooden houses stand above muddy tidal ground and are connected by narrow wooden walkways. As you move through the settlement, observe daily village activities unfolding naturally around you, offering an intimate glimpse into the lives of Papua’s coastal communities.

Return to Timika for lunch at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, visit a local souvenir shop before returning to the traditional market. A second visit often reveals details easily missed the first time—different traders, changing produce, spontaneous encounters, and new aspects of everyday life.

Return to the hotel in the evening for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast and check-out, transfer to Timika Airport for the approximately 30-minute flight to Ewer.

Upon arrival, continue by motorbike for a short transfer to the jetty, where you will board a speedboat for the approximately 15-minute journey to Agats, the administrative center of the Asmat region.

After lunch in Agats, continue your expedition by boat into increasingly remote river landscapes.

As evening approaches, stop at Jinak Village for dinner before continuing toward Suator District, where you will spend the night in a simple local guesthouse.

Accommodation in this remote area is basic, but mosquito nets will be provided for a more comfortable night before the next stage of your journey.

After breakfast, continue your journey by speedboat through the vast river systems of southern Papua.

After approximately 2.5 hours, reach Sipanap Village, where you will transfer to a smaller motorized wooden canoe better suited to the shallower waterways ahead.

Continue toward Mabul on a journey of approximately two hours through remote rivers and dense forest landscapes. Along the way, you may observe local people engaged in small-scale gold panning along the riverbanks.

Upon arrival in Mabul, take a short break at a local family home, where coffee and light snacks will be served.

From here, continue deeper into Korowai territory. After reaching the riverbank, begin your walk through the forest toward a Korowai settlement.

Upon arrival, meet your local hosts and begin discovering the close relationship between the Korowai people and their rainforest environment. Learn about traditional hunting techniques, archery, pig traps, forest knowledge, and other aspects of daily life.

You may also see the remarkable elevated houses for which the Korowai are widely known. Your local hosts and guide will explain their construction, practical purpose, and cultural significance.

Lunch and dinner will be prepared by the expedition team using clean water and appropriate cooking equipment.

Spend your first night in the Korowai settlement, surrounded by the sounds of the Papuan rainforest.

Wake to the sounds of the rainforest and enjoy breakfast in the village.

Today is dedicated entirely to experiencing the daily life of the Korowai community, allowing more time to understand their relationship with the forest and the traditions that continue to shape everyday life.

Accompanied by your local hosts and guide, walk through the surrounding rainforest and observe activities according to what is naturally taking place in the community that day.

You may have the opportunity to learn how sago, one of the most important traditional food sources in Papua, is collected and processed. Depending on local conditions, you may also observe the gathering of sago larvae, fishing, preparation of traditional tools, archery, construction of traps, or other forest-based activities.

Spend time around the settlement observing family life and learning how knowledge of plants, rivers, animals, and the surrounding forest is passed from one generation to the next.

There will also be opportunities for short walks deeper into the surrounding forest, accompanied by local villagers who can explain how the Korowai identify useful plants, food sources, and natural materials.

Please note that these are genuine daily activities rather than staged demonstrations. What can be observed will therefore depend on the community’s activities, weather, and local conditions at the time of your visit.

Return to the settlement in the afternoon and enjoy time with your hosts before dinner.

Spend a second night in Korowai territory, allowing you to experience the extraordinary atmosphere of the rainforest after dark and enjoy a slower, more meaningful encounter with this remote community.

After breakfast, spend your final morning in the Korowai settlement.

Depending on local activities, there may be time to observe additional aspects of village life or take a short walk around the surrounding forest before preparing for departure.

Bid farewell to your Korowai hosts and begin the walk back toward the river.

Board the wooden motorized canoe and retrace your journey through the shallow waterways toward Mabul and Sipanap. As the rivers become deeper, transfer back to the speedboat for the onward journey.

Stop in Suator District for a late lunch and a short rest before continuing by boat toward Jinak Village.

Arrive in Jinak later in the day and settle into your simple local accommodation.

Dinner and overnight in Jinak.

Depart Jinak at approximately 6:00 AM and travel by boat toward the Asmat region. The journey takes around three hours, depending on river, tide, and weather conditions.

Upon arrival, visit an Asmat village and discover one of Papua’s most celebrated artistic traditions.

The Asmat are internationally renowned for their extraordinary woodcarving skills, passed from generation to generation. Learn how carving is closely connected to ancestry, spiritual beliefs, community identity, and traditional life.

Observe local craftsmen at work and gain insight into the symbolism, techniques, and cultural meaning behind their distinctive carvings.

The visit also provides an opportunity to observe everyday village life along the rivers, where boats remain an essential means of transport and communication between communities.

In the afternoon, continue by boat to Agats, where you will check in to your guesthouse.

Enjoy the remainder of the evening at leisure after another memorable day on Papua’s waterways.

After breakfast and check-out, visit the Asmat Museum in Agats, home to an impressive collection of traditional carvings, sculptures, ceremonial objects, and other examples of Asmat artistic heritage.

The museum offers valuable cultural context to the traditions, beliefs, and craftsmanship encountered during your journey through Asmat territory.

After the visit, proceed directly to the jetty for the boat transfer back to Ewer Airport.

Board your flight to Timika. Upon arrival, your driver will meet you and transfer you to your hotel for check-in.

The remainder of the afternoon is free for relaxation after your remote expedition. Lunch will be at your own leisure.

In the evening, you will be picked up for a special farewell dinner, marking the conclusion of an extraordinary expedition through Korowai and Asmat territory.

After breakfast, check out from your hotel.

At the appropriate time, transfer to Mozes Kilangin Airport for your onward flight.
